The Indian defence ministry has made serious attempts at rationalizing its defence procurement process. On Thursday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, cleared new guidelines to cut acquisition timelines and increase efficiency. At the same time, the DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity to eight capital acquisition proposals amounting to more than ₹54,000 crore. They involve more powerful engines for T-90 tanks, indigenous Varunastra ship-launched anti-submarine torpedoes, and Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft systems. This move is in line with India's 'Year of Reforms' plan for 2025, in which it aims to make the armed forces a technologically advanced, combat force. The reforms will resolve the problem of long-standing delays in India's slow-moving procurement procedures, which will bring down acquisition times from years to months. Source: BharatShakti
