TRAI Recommends Interoperable Set-Top Boxes and Infrastructure Sharing Among Broadcasters

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested adopting interoperable set-top boxes in order to benefit consumers and mitigate electronic waste. The move will enable consumers to change service providers without having to procure new equipment. TRAI also supports the sharing of infrastructure among broadcasters as a means to maximize resources and deliver better services. These proposals are intended to create a competitive and efficient broadcast environment that would ultimately benefit the consumer through better options and services.
