Transforming Urban Water Security: AMRUT 2.0 Launches Extensive Water Supply Schemes in Bihar

The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) is gaining momentum in Bihar with the launch of critical water supply schemes aimed at guaranteeing potable water access to households in urban areas. As part of the national initiative to create self-reliant, water-secure cities, the latest projects encompass Purnea, Dehri Dalmiyanagar, and Motihari, targeting significant improvements in water infrastructure under this five-year mission.

 

Key highlights from these projects reveal a focused approach toward enhancing urban living standards while achieving sustainability:

 

Purnea Water Supply Scheme: This project, categorized under Group-01, emphasizes expanding the water supply network to cover more households, ensuring consistent and safe drinking water. It aligns with AMRUT 2.0's goal to provide functional tap connections across all statutory towns.

 

Dehri Dalmiyanagar Water Supply Scheme: Accompanied by plans for an extensive sewerage network and septage management, this scheme integrates water supply improvements with comprehensive sanitation efforts, underpinning holistic urban rejuvenation.

 

Motihari Water Supply Scheme: Marked under Group-03, the project focuses on upgrading water infrastructure to meet urban demand, contributing to the broader mission objective of universal water coverage and enhanced quality of life for residents.

 

These initiatives are part of AMRUT 2.0's wide-ranging strategy that targets universal coverage of water supply by providing household tap connections in 4,378 statutory towns nationally. Additionally, the mission seeks 100% coverage of sewerage/septage management in 500 AMRUT cities, backed by a total indicative budget of ₹2,99,000 crore over five years. This extensive funding includes ₹76,760 crore from central government support, underscoring the government's commitment to urban transformation.

 

Beyond water supply, AMRUT 2.0 envisions sustainable urban ecosystems by integrating water body rejuvenation, parks, and green space development with infrastructure projects, as seen in complementary schemes launched in Bihar.

 

These projects are advancing through scheduled tenders with tight deadlines to ensure swift execution and operational readiness, reflecting the mission's urgency in addressing India's urban water challenges effectively.
