UP Takes a Stand: Waqf Board Land Claims Curbed for Public Welfare

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has lauded the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, as a transformative step toward ensuring public land is used for schools, hospitals, and housing for the poor. Speaking in Lucknow, Adityanath emphasized that the bill will put an end to arbitrary claims and encroachments made in the name of the Waqf Board, which he described as a "land mafia" in certain cases.

The bill, passed in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, seeks to amend the 1995 Act to enhance the administration and management of Waqf properties. It introduces measures to streamline the registration process, strengthen Waqf boards, and incorporate technology for better record management and transparency. Adityanath expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their efforts in curbing irregularities and ensuring public welfare.

The move has sparked protests from opposition parties, including Congress and AIMIM, who have challenged the bill in the Supreme Court. Despite this, Adityanath remains confident that the legislation will bring about positive change, aligning with the state's commitment to law and order.
