US Tariffs: The Uninvited Guest at Sri Lanka's Economic Party

US President Donald Trump recently declared reciprocal tariffs on major trade partners, including India, China, and the EU, sharpening global trade tensions. Though Sri Lanka has not been named in the statement, the country can be affected indirectly. Being an important trade partner with India, Sri Lanka may suffer from decreased demand for its exports if India's economy is hit by the new tariffs. Also, the world economic uncertainty arising from these trade tensions might hit Sri Lanka's export-based industries. But the exact effect on Sri Lanka is uncertain, as the contours of the reciprocal tariffs are still coming out.
