Uttar Pradesh's Bold Privatization Strategy: Power Workers Rally Against Change

Uttar Pradesh is moving forward with its much-criticized plan to privatize two distribution companies, Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam, to improve service delivery as demand grows. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. has come out with this decision, which has already met with stiff opposition from employees apprehensive of job losses and further increases in the tariff. The government argues that privatization is essential for modernizing the power sector and cutting operational losses. Critics, on the other hand, caution about the dangers it poses based on past privatization experiences.
