Meta has expanded its AI-powered dubbing and translation feature to support Hindi and Portuguese for Instagram and Facebook Reels. Creators can now automatically translate, dub, and lip-sync their videos, reaching larger audiences with authentic voice replication and synchronized mouth movements for a seamless multilingual experience.
Meta, the social media giant behind Facebook and Instagram, has announced a major expansion of its AI-powered Reels dubbing feature to include Hindi and Portuguese languages. Building on the earlier launch supporting English and Spanish, this new update aims to break down language barriers and enable creators across India, Brazil, and beyond to connect with global audiences.
The AI translation technology mimics creators' voices, replicating tone and sound to make dubbed content feel genuinely authentic. Further enhancing realism, the feature includes lip-syncing that synchronizes translated audio with the speaker’s mouth movements, creating an engaging and natural viewing experience.
Creators can activate this functionality via the "Translate your voice with Meta AI" option before publishing a Reel. They can choose which languages to convert their content into and review or remove translations as needed. This feature is currently available to Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers and all public Instagram accounts in regions where Meta AI operates.
Meta's Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, highlighted the importance of enabling creators to reach audiences across linguistic and cultural divides, contributing to content diversity and creator growth. Meta plans to add more languages soon and is working on translating text and caption stickers on Reels to improve accessibility for viewers who watch videos without sound.
Transparency is maintained by labeling dubbed videos with "Translated with Meta AI," and viewers have full control to disable translations or listen to the original audio. However, the advancement also raises questions about the evolving nature of authenticity, as AI-generated voices become indistinguishable from the real.
By empowering creators to broaden their global reach effortlessly, Meta anticipates increased engagement and content consumption on its platforms. This innovation underscores Meta's push to build a more connected and inclusive social media ecosystem.
