Key Highlights:

Special Trains to Ease Passenger Rush:

- Western Railway has announced two Superfast Special trains from Ahmedabad:

i) Ahmedabad to Delhi (Train No. 09497): Departs 11:45 pm Thursday, arrives Delhi 2:45 pm Friday. Return journey (09498) on Friday.

ii) Ahmedabad to Mumbai (Train No. 09494): Departs 11:55 pm Thursday, returns as 09493 on Friday.

- Indian Railways is also preparing to run special Vande Bharat trains for further evacuation, depending on demand.

Crash Details:

- Air India Flight AI171 was en route to London Gatwick with 242 people on board (230 passengers, 12 crew), including 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian.

- The aircraft crashed into a doctors’ hostel in a densely populated area (Meghani Nagar) minutes after takeoff at 1:39 pm, following a mayday call.

- All on board are feared dead, with rescue teams recovering dozens of bodies; visuals showed thick smoke and burning debris.

Relief and Rescue Operations:

- Western Railway has dispatched its Disaster Management Team, medical staff, and Railway Protection Force to assist at the site.

- Three NDRF teams (90 personnel), Indian Army relief columns, and multiple ambulances are deployed for rescue and medical support.

- Ahmedabad Police and local hospitals are on high alert, with emergency helplines activated for families.

Government Response:

- Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are personally monitoring the situation; central and state agencies are coordinating relief.

- Air India and the Ministry of Railways have set up emergency response centers for passenger families.

Airport Status:

- Ahmedabad airport operations remain suspended; all flights are halted until further notice.
