Wheels of Change: PM Modi’s Mega Projects Set Kanpur on a New Course

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 15 major development projects in Kanpur today, with a total investment exceeding ₹47,573 crore. Among the highlights is the inauguration of the new underground section of the Kanpur Metro Rail project, connecting Chunniganj to Kanpur Central with five new underground stations. This extension will directly link key city landmarks, enhancing urban mobility and commuter experience.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate three 660 MW power units in Ghatampur and a thermal power project in Panki, ensuring a stable power supply for Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states. Two new railway bridges from Panki Power Plant to Kalyanpur will be opened to streamline coal and fuel transport, improving power plant efficiency and reducing city traffic congestion.

In the Bingawan area, a 40 MLD tertiary treatment plant will be dedicated to the nation, enabling sewage water to be treated and reused for industrial and irrigation purposes, supporting water conservation efforts. Additionally, a new fire station in Bithoor will be inaugurated to strengthen the city’s emergency response capabilities.

Other projects to be launched virtually include two 132 kV power substations in Greater Noida and thermal power plants in Jawaharpur, Obra-C, and Khurja, which will significantly enhance the state’s energy infrastructure.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new projects worth over ₹441 crore, focusing on smart infrastructure, improved traffic, and urban services. These include widening and strengthening Gauria Pali Marg, expanding the road from Narval Mod on the AH-1 Prayagraj Highway to Saand for the Defence Corridor, and constructing a 220 kV substation at Sector-28, YEIDA, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will join the Prime Minister at the event, which is expected to usher in a new era of growth, social advancement, and environmental sustainability for Kanpur and the entire state.
