Womenomics: The Secret Weapon in India's Quest for Economic Superpower Status

On International Women's Day, India accepts that gender equity is vital for their economic growth. The theme for the day, #AccelerateAction, sees the country looking at boosting the female labor force participation rate from 37% to 70% by 2047. To achieve this ambition, another 145 million women need to be integrated into the workforce, which will constitute an infusion of $14 trillion into India's GDP. Although education and corporate diversity have progressed, only 18% of formal jobs in large enterprises are held by women. Experts do insist that India needs to close the gender gap in roles that today are of utmost importance, namely technology, manufacturing, and finance, to materialize its $30 trillion economy dream by 2047.
