Drastic Time Saving: The expressway will cut travel time from Pune–Bengaluru from 14–15 hours to barely 6–7 hours by providing for speeds up to 120 km/h and reducing the distance by almost 95 kilometers.
Route & Reach: The expressway will begin from Kanjle in the state of Maharashtra and terminate at Bommanal in Karnataka and traverse 12 districts, which include Pune, Satara, Sangli, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Koppal, and Tumakuru.
High-Tech Infrastructure: 55 flyovers, 22 interchanges, 14 highway crossings, two emergency airstrips, smart tolling, CCTV cameras, electronic speed cameras, and drone-based surveillance will be part of this six-to-eight-lane access-controlled road.
Economic Effect: The expressway is expected to serve as an inducement to industrial growth, construction activity, and generation of employment opportunities, especially in backward and drought-prone regions along its alignment.
Environmental & Safety Measures: Plans entail wildlife crossings, integrated emergency response systems, and environmental protection measures to ensure sustainable development.
Strategic Connectivity: The new corridor will also act as a high-speed bypass of NH-48 and directly connect itself onto the Pune–Mumbai Expressway, further augmenting national freight and logistics movement.
Project Schedule: The Detailed Project Report was approved by the two state governments in February 2025 and central clearance by mid-2025 with completion of construction by 2028.
