8th Pay Commission 2026: What Central Government Employees Can Expect

The Finance Ministry has initiated consultations for the 8th Pay Commission, which will determine new pay scales, allowances, and pension benefits. While the commission is yet to be formally constituted, projections indicate major changes in the pay matrix and overall salary framework.  

Salary Structure And Fitment Factor  

The fitment factor, expected at 1.92, will be applied to the existing basic pay to calculate revised salaries. This means the minimum basic pay could rise to ₹34,560, while the maximum may reach ₹4,80,000. The pay matrix will be updated across all 18 levels.  

Allowances And Dearness Adjustment  

Dearness Allowance (DA) will be merged into the new structure, ensuring inflation-linked revisions. House Rent Allowance (HRA) and other benefits are also expected to be recalibrated, aligning with the new salary framework.  

Arrears And Pension Impact  

Employees retiring before December 31, 2025, will be eligible for pension revisions under the new framework. Arrears may be paid to bridge the gap between old and new pay structures, ensuring fairness across service periods.
