A Wedding Fit for Royalty: Inside India’s Most Expensive Celebration

Indian weddings are renowned for their grandeur, but the nuptials of Brahmani Reddy, daughter of Karnataka mining baron and former minister Janardhana Reddy, set an entirely new benchmark for opulence. Held in November 2016 at Bengaluru Palace Grounds, this five-day extravaganza reportedly cost a staggering ₹500 crore, making it one of the most expensive weddings in Indian history.

The bride dazzled in a ₹17 crore Kanjeevaram saree adorned with pure gold threadwork, paired with jewelry worth ₹90 crore. Her attire alone symbolized the fusion of tradition and luxury. Transportation was equally lavish—15 helicopters and 2,000 taxis ferried guests to the venue, where bullock carts escorted them inside. The dining area was inspired by Bellary village, while Bollywood art directors designed sets that resembled ancient temples. Security was tight with 3,000 personnel ensuring smooth proceedings.
