Adani Ports Makes Waves: Colombo Terminal Begins Operations

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones Ltd. (APSEZ) has officially commenced operations at its Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), marking a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy. This terminal, developed in partnership with John Keells Holdings PLC and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, is poised to transform the Colombo Port into a premier transshipment hub in the Indian Ocean.

The CWIT boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a quay length of 1,400 meters and an alongside depth of 20 meters, enabling it to handle Ultra Large Container Carriers. With an initial capacity of 1.5 million TEUs, the terminal is expected to enhance the port's overall capacity to 8 million TEUs by mid-2026. This development underscores Adani Ports' commitment to fostering regional trade and connectivity.

The project has also attracted international recognition, with funding from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), further solidifying its strategic importance. As the first Indian port operator in Sri Lanka, Adani Ports is set to play a pivotal role in boosting trade and economic growth in the region.
