Retrofit Program Details:

The retrofit process also covers an extensive cabin interior upgrade, with new seats, carpets, curtains, and cabin ambiance lighting.

A320neo aircraft will be arranged in a three-class configuration of 8 Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy seats with additional legroom, and 132 Economy seats.

Improved Passenger Amenities:

The new cabins will be equipped with latest amenities like portable electronic device (PED) holders, USB ports (Type A and C), and contoured seats for added comfort.

Business Class seating will feature 40-inch pitch, adjustable armrests, and footrests, while Premium Economy and Economy seating will offer generous legroom and reclining options.

Timeline and Progress:

The retrofitting commenced in September 2024, with the first plane, VT-EXN, already back in service after its refurbishment.

Air India will retrofit three to four aircraft a month, so its entire narrowbody fleet is modernized by the third quarter of 2025.

The carrier is modernizing its widebody fleet as well, with a plan to retrofit 40 Boeing planes by mid-2027.
