Are Banks Operational Today Despite the Eid Holiday?

In a major decision, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed all banks to be open today, March 31, 2025, even though it is a public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. This move will facilitate smooth year-end financial transactions as the financial year comes to an end. Banks were originally supposed to be closed in all states except Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram. But in view of the need for continuous services to taxpayers and businesses, the RBI made special arrangements to ensure that branches dealing with government business remain open.

Tax payment, pension payments, and government cheque clearances are essential services that will be available. Digital banking channels like internet banking and UPI are also available across the country. The Income Tax Department and insurance offices are also functioning to enable timely filing and policyholder services during this crucial period.
