Atal Canteens Set to Transform Delhi’s Food Security

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the launch of 100 Atal Canteens near slum clusters and construction sites, aiming to ensure that no one in the city goes hungry. The initiative, backed by a ₹100 crore budget allocation, will provide affordable, nutritious meals to economically disadvantaged communities.  

The canteens, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will operate on a subsidized model, offering meals at nominal prices. The move aligns with similar schemes in BJP-ruled states, such as Tamil Nadu’s Amma Canteens and Karnataka’s Indira Canteens.  

Gupta unveiled the plan while inaugurating an automatic chapati maker at a temple in Shalimarbagh, emphasizing the government’s commitment to food security. The machine, capable of rolling out 1,200 rotis per hour, will support daily food distribution efforts.
