Balancing the Books and Public Interest: Finance Minister's Fiscal Transparency Drive

On March 1, 2025, at the 49th Civil Accounts Day, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked civil accounts officers to ensure that annual accounts were developed for easy use and accessment by citizens. Therefore to this end, she appealed for reports that could reflect citizen insight carefully, allowing the citizenry to analyze them. Sitharaman noted that the PFMS had been successful in limiting borrowings and interest. She called for implementation of the SNA-SPARSH system for various schemes in the next financial year for greater transparency and efficiency in the management of government finances.
