BBMP Polls Must Be Held in May: Minister Ramalinga Reddy

Karnataka Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy emphasized that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections must be held in May 2025. This follows after the city went without an elected municipal council since September 2020. The minister noted that any delay would lead to Supreme Court intervention. In spite of continued debate on the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, which seeks to break up BBMP into smaller corporations, Reddy insisted on holding polls at the earliest. The government is also feeling the heat as Maharashtra has decided on municipal elections after a Supreme Court directive, putting pressure on Karnataka's plight as well
