Bullet Train Blitz: Varanasi to Howrah in Just 2 Hours

Indian Railways is gearing up to transform travel in eastern India with the ambitious Varanasi–Howrah bullet train project. This high-speed corridor, spanning 760 kilometers, promises to cut travel time between Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal to just two hours, a dramatic reduction from the current 8–10 hours.  

The route will connect major cities like Buxar, Ara, Patna, Gaya, Dhanbad, Asansol, Durgapur, and Burdwan, with additional stations at Ara and Nawada under consideration. Designed to achieve a top speed of 350 km/h, the project includes 260 kilometers of elevated tracks within Bihar to minimize disruption to existing infrastructure.  

Currently in the Detailed Project Report stage, the initiative is progressing with surveys and land acquisition underway. Once operational, the bullet train will enhance regional connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and boost tourism in the region.  

This project is part of India's broader vision to expand its high-speed rail network, setting new benchmarks for efficiency, passenger experience, and infrastructure development. The corridor is expected to become operational by mid-2027, marking a new era in Indian transportation.
