Canada's Global Leap: Small Businesses Soar in Asian Skies

Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises  are turning more and more to Asia as a strategic choice to diversify away from the U.S. market. This is motivated by the increase in Asia's middle class and increased demand for specialized skills, especially in energy and technology sectors. A recent business delegation of Canadian firms traveled to Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam to pursue business opportunities, which mirrors Canada's larger Indo-Pacific strategy.

Canada and ASEAN are in the process of a free trade agreement by 2025, which would have a major impact on trade opportunities. Canadian SMEs can utilize government assistance and digital trade platforms to effectively deal with Asian markets. By customizing services to local requirements and establishing strong local networks, Canadian firms can tap into Asia's growth potential and diversify their export markets.
