Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued urgent instructions to all district in-charge Ministers and secretaries, directing them to personally visit and inspect flood-affected areas across the state in the wake of heavy monsoon rains. The directive comes as several regions in Karnataka face extensive damage to homes and infrastructure, with over 1,400 houses reported damaged and numerous families displaced.
Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for on-ground inspections and close monitoring of relief operations, stating that ministers must address issues such as landslides, tree falls, and road disruptions. The Chief Minister has also scheduled high-level review meetings on May 30 and 31 with Deputy Commissioners, Zilla Panchayat CEOs, and district secretaries to assess the ongoing relief efforts and coordinate further action.
According to official data, 45 houses have been completely destroyed and 1,385 homes partially damaged as of May 26. Nearly all affected families have received financial assistance, with over ₹973 crore allocated for disaster relief at the district and taluk levels. Authorities have identified 170 taluks as vulnerable to floods and landslides, setting up more than 2,200 care and shelter centres to accommodate displaced residents. In Bengaluru alone, 201 areas have been marked as high-risk flood zones.
Siddaramaiah has urged the Chief Secretary to oversee the coordination of district-level responses, ensuring all departments work together to mitigate the impact of the disaster. The government’s priority, he stated, is to prevent further damage and provide timely support to those affected by the monsoon rains.
