Deendayal Port Charts Green Course: PM Modi Unveils Game-Changing Projects Worth ₹1,100 Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of a chain of record-breaking projects, totaling over ₹1,100 crore, at the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, in a historic ceremony in Bhuj, Kutch, on May 26, 2025. The projects are a major step ahead for India's shipping infrastructure and its clean energy aspirations, positioning Deendayal Port to be a major driving force behind the country's economic and environmental future.

Key Highlights

Major Investments Announced: Projects totaling ₹532 crore were announced, including

Oil Jetty No. 8 Old Kandla: With a yearly capacity of 3.5 million metric tonnes, the new jetty features telescopic gangways, indigenously designed quick-release mooring systems, and an automated fire-fighting system, making it possible to berth large liquid cargo vessels of up to 1 lakh DWT safely.

Improved Connectivity: Upgradation of Tuna-Tekra Container Terminal will improve container traffic efficiency, whereas increasing the port area for EXIM cargo storage will allow for quicker evacuation of cargo.

Jobs and Community: Other projects are based on building up port operations, improving community facilities, and creating new jobs.

Foundation Stones for ₹602 Crore Projects:

10 MW Green Hydrogen Plant: This will make DPA a clean energy leader in India in accordance with international best practices. It will serve India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and establish the port as a "Green Hydrogen Hub".

Road Infrastructure Improvement: Development of three road over bridges and upgradation to six-lane roads at Kandla will transform port logistics and enhance city-port connectivity.

Strategic Vision: The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of port-led growth for India's coastal economy with Kandla leading the way in processing almost one-third of the nation's export-import trade and contributing to the record cargo handling of 15 crore tonnes by major ports in the current year.

Green and Global Orientation: These activities also strengthen DPA's resolve towards developing a green, efficient, and globally competitive maritime ecosystem as per the vision of "Viksit Bharat @2047" and India's net-zero vision.
