Delhi's 37-Year CM Drought: Unraveling the Capital's Political Vacuum

From November 1, 1956, to December 2, 1993, Delhi experienced a unique political phenomenon – the absence of a Chief Minister. This 37-year gap occurred when the national capital lost its state status under the Government of Part C State Act 1951. Delhi was then administered by a chief commissioner appointed by the central government. The position of Chief Minister was only reinstated in 1993 following the 69th Constitutional Amendment Act, which granted Delhi special state status as the National Capital Territory. This period significantly shaped Delhi's governance structure and political landscape.
