DGCA Issues Advisory to Airlines Amid Airspace Restrictions

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued an advisory to airlines in response to ongoing airspace restrictions that have led to longer flight durations and operational challenges. The move comes after Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian carriers, forcing airlines to reroute flights and extend travel times.  

The advisory outlines measures to ensure passenger comfort and operational efficiency. Airlines have been directed to proactively inform passengers about revised flight routes, expected travel durations, and potential technical stops at intermediate airports. This information must be communicated at check-in counters, boarding gates, and through SMS or email alerts.  

To accommodate longer flights, airlines must adjust in-flight catering services, ensuring adequate meals, beverages, and hydration supplies for passengers. Medical preparedness has also been emphasized, with carriers required to stock sufficient first-aid kits and coordinate with alternate airports for emergency medical support.  

Customer service teams have been instructed to manage disruptions effectively, assisting passengers with missed onward connections and providing necessary support for delays. Airlines must also ensure seamless coordination between operational and customer service departments to minimize inconvenience.  

The advisory follows heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to the airspace closure. Airlines are expected to implement these measures immediately to maintain service quality and passenger welfare during the ongoing restrictions.
