Domestic Investors Set to Overtake Foreign Players: A New Era for Indian Equity Markets

Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) are on the verge of surpassing Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in ownership stakes within Indian companies. Recent trends reveal that FPIs sold shares worth ₹1.51 lakh crore in the December quarter, with their ownership dropping to a 12-year low of 16.99%. Meanwhile, DIIs have increased their stake to a record 16.69%, driven by robust systematic investment plan (SIP) inflows. If this trend continues, DIIs could soon dominate the Indian equity landscape, reshaping investment dynamics in India Inc.
