Empowering Mothers: Supreme Court's Bold Move for Breastfeeding Rights

The Supreme Court has mandated that states provide dedicated spaces for child care and breastfeeding in public buildings. In a recent decision, the Court affirmed the significance of allowing a private place for nursing mothers, stating that public breastfeeding should not be deemed obscene. A bench, presided over by Justice B.V. Nagarathna, called upon states to implement an advisory by the Centre to build some feeding and child care rooms. This judgment also secures the fundamental right under Articles 14 and 15(3) of the Constitution, where mothers are to be given privacy while assisting babies. A two-week time limit has been set by the court during which it is to communicate this order to the states and union territories through the Centre.
