EPFO 3.0 Brings Instant PF Withdrawals Via UPI And ATMs For Subscribers

EPFO 3.0 is the latest IT-driven upgrade of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, designed to make withdrawals and claim settlements seamless. The system integrates with India’s UPI payment network and introduces EPF-linked ATM cards, allowing members to access funds instantly without lengthy approval processes. 

UPI And ATM Withdrawals

• Subscribers can now withdraw their PF balance directly through UPI apps or at UPI-enabled ATMs.
• UPI withdrawals: Up to 75% of PF balance can be withdrawn instantly.
• ATM withdrawals: PF-linked ATM cards allow cash withdrawals, capped at 50% of balance to safeguard savings.
• Funds are credited instantly to verified bank accounts linked with Aadhaar and UAN. 

What Stays Unchanged

• Tax rules: Withdrawals remain tax-free after five years of service. Early withdrawals above ₹50,000 attract TDS.
• 25% lock-in rule: Members must retain at least 25% of their PF balance until retirement.
• Employer approval: No longer required for standard withdrawals, but KYC compliance (Aadhaar, PAN, bank account) remains mandatory. 

Faster Claim Settlements

EPFO 3.0 has automated 95% of claims, reducing settlement time from weeks to seconds. Auto-settlement limits have been raised to ₹5 lakh, compared to ₹1 lakh earlier. This ensures quicker access to funds during emergencies.
