Flying Cars Are Here! Osaka World Expo Prepares for Air Taxi Showcase

The urban air mobility future soars as Japanese electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle manufacturer SkyDrive gains a special landing site for the Osaka World Expo 2025. The just-completed Osakako Vertiport at Osaka's Minato Ward Chuo Pier shall be the base of operations for SkyDrive's demonstration flights throughout the 184-day expo, which will be held from April until October 2025.

 

On March 28, 2025, a completion ceremony for the vertiport was conducted, and it was attended by Osaka Metro and SkyDrive's most important officials. The vertiport is spread across 12,000 square meters and contains a takeoff and landing site, a maintenance and storage hangar, and a passenger lounge that is loaded with advanced amenities such as facial recognition check-in. This vertiport is part of the larger "e METRO" program of Osaka Metro to make the city incorporate eVTOLs into its transport system.

 

SkyDrive will demonstrate its SD-05 three-seat eVTOL aircraft via demonstration flights between the Expo's internal vertiport and Osakako Vertiport. The flights are intended to expose the public to air taxis as a sustainable urban mobility solution while promoting the advancement of next-generation transportation systems.
