Gig Economy in a Sweat: Bengaluru's Summer Struggle

Bengaluru's gig economy workers are being adversely affected by hot summer temperatures, among other extreme weather conditions. This group of workers, who are not widely included in policy considerations, works long hours in extreme conditions, resulting in increased health hazards and decreased productivity. Rising from the growth of the gig economy is the aggravation of these problems, with workers being exposed to extended heat hours, thus risking dehydration and heat strokes. Platform companies are starting to introduce policies such as flexible working hours and hydration breaks to counter these risks. More extensive policies, however, must be introduced to guarantee the safety and health of these workers.
