Govt works out plan to stop distress sale of farmers' crop

Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the government is formulating steps for farmers not to sell their produce, particularly fruits and vegetables, at distress rates. Addressing the 'Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela' 2025, Chouhan reiterated the need for transferring new varieties of seeds and technology rapidly from the lab to the fields. The government is directly interacting with farmers and farmer organizations to hear their problems and resolve them. Chouhan pointed towards recent actions taken to safeguard farmers' interests such as the lifting of export curbs on rice and onions, increasing customs duty on edible oils, and assisting tomato farmers during price collapse. The minister promised the well-being of farmers from the government side and referred to efforts under way to bridge the farm gate to consumer price gap. He also highlighted the significance of the PM-KISAN scheme, which gives 9.8 crore farmers financial help on a yearly basis.
