SBI has upped its top-end home loan rate from 8.45% to 8.70%, while retaining the lower limit at 7.50%. The adjustment most affects borrowers with lower credit scores, who will now contend with some of the market’s highest rates from SBI.

 

Although the RBI repo rate stands at 5.5% after its latest policy meeting, and the central bank has cut rates three times since February, SBI’s decision may set a precedent for other major public sector banks.
