IKEA's Make in India Masterplan: Furniture Giant Doubles Down on Local Sourcing

IKEA India is ramping up local sourcing aggressively, targeting to raise the proportion from the existing 33% to more than 50% in the next few years. This is in line with the sustainability targets and affordability mission of the company. As part of its growth strategy, IKEA will initiate online operations in Delhi-NCR by March 1, 2025, catering to nine more north Indian cities. The furniture major also has a fresh investment phase lined up to bolster its base in South and West India, probing for opportunities in Lucknow, Chandigarh, Pune, Chennai, and Kolkata. Its localization initiative centers on procurement of textiles, plastics, metals, and wood furniture, facilitating the manufacturing hub in India.
