IMD Warns Of Heatwave In North, Heavy Rains In Northeast And South

On April 24, 2026, the IMD released a nationwide forecast highlighting severe weather disparities. While parts of the country will see widespread rainfall and gusty winds, others will endure soaring temperatures above 44°C, creating a dual challenge for authorities and citizens.

Rain And Thunderstorm Forecast

Northeast India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall between April 25–30.

East India: Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha forecasted for thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain.

South India: Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh will see scattered rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

West India: Goa, Maharashtra, and Konkan region likely to receive light to moderate rain.

Heatwave Conditions

North India: Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan under heatwave alert until April 27.

Central India: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha expected to see temperatures rising 2–4°C above normal.

Delhi-NCR: Maximum temperatures forecast between 40–44°C, with warm nights limiting relief.
