India Adds Another Feather to Its Semiconductor Cap: New HCL-Foxconn Chip Plant Announced for Jewar, UP

India's dream of semiconductors got a major push as the Union Cabinet approved a fresh chip fab at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh-the sixth under the India Semiconductor Mission. The project, a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, will be set up near the new Jewar airport in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. It will manufacture advanced display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, and others with a monthly capacity of 20,000 wafers and a production of 36 million units per month, at an investment of ₹3,706 crore.

 

Production will start in 2027, creating around 2,000 jobs and significantly boosting India's domestic chip ecosystem. The development not only reduces reliance on imports but also positions India as an emerging force in the global semiconductor supply chain.
