India and Nepal Cement Ties: Foundation Stone Laid for New School in Morang

One of the biggest steps in India-Nepal development cooperation was witnessed on Friday as the foundation stone for a new three-story building at Shree Panchayat Secondary School in Sundarharaicha Municipality, Morang district, was laid. The project, supported by the Indian government at a cost of NPR 28.10 million, is under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) initiative, highlighting India's position as Nepal's biggest development partner.

The foundation laying ceremony was attended by Koshi Province's Minister of Social Development Panchakarna Rai, Sundarharaicha Mayor Kedar Prasad Guragain, and Garima Nautiyal, Second Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. Local leaders, teachers, students, and community members were present, indicating strong grassroots support.

The new complex, which will be helpful to some 750 students—60% of them female—will seek to offer a contemporary, effective learning environment and increase the level of education in the region. The Nepalese government and various stakeholders expressed gratitude over India's continued support, noting the wider ramifications of more than 573 HICDPs executed by India in Nepal since 2003.

The recent partnership further solidifies the multi-sectoral engagement between the two neighbors, with a special emphasis on infrastructure, education, and socio-economic development.
