Indian Railways is driving its sustainability agenda with the electrification of key roads in the Northeast. The recent completion of Agartala-Sabroom electrification is another milestone in reinforcing green rail connectivity in Tripura. The work is part of Indian Railways' grand design to become 100% electric and achieve net-zero carbon output by 2030. The Northeast Frontier Railway has so far electrified 64% of its system, reducing diesel consumption and making operations more efficient. Electrification projects like the Lumding-Dibrugarh section, which is near completion, should further raise the speed of trains, reduce delays, and curb emissions. According to officials, these advances will enhance regional connectivity as well as enhance economic development. Such a transition not only helps India's green power initiative but also reduces foreign exchange expenses on crude imports.
