Indian Railways to Launch Most Powerful Locomotive in Next Month

Indian Railways is all set to launch its most powerful and sophisticated locomotive in the next 30-40 days. The new locomotive, with a horsepower of 9,000, will be able to haul freight trains with loads of 4,500-5,000 tonnes at a speed of 100 kmph. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared the locomotive, which is produced at the Dahod Workshop in Gujarat, as 89% Made in India. This one-engine design is more efficient than the older 12,000 HP two-engine models. The minister asked the engineers to make it 100% indigenously produced, emphasizing the export potential of the engines. This is a major leap towards improving freight operations and highlighting the Indian railway manufacturing prowess.
