Indian Refiners Boost Russian Oil Imports Amid Market Adjustments

India's crude oil imports from Russia saw a 3.1 percent increase in March, marking a recovery after months of decline. The rise in shipments comes as refiners navigate evolving trade dynamics and shifting global supply chains.  

Following a three-month downturn due to US sanctions, India's Russian oil imports rebounded, reaching 1.54 million barrels per day. The recovery was facilitated by non-sanctioned vessels and redirected supplies from Turkey, easing concerns over availability and pricing. The increase in Russian crude imports has also contributed to stabilizing costs for Middle Eastern grades, which had surged amid supply constraints.  

Despite ongoing geopolitical pressures, Indian refiners continue to prioritize Russian crude, benefiting from competitive pricing and long-term agreements. The latest data suggests that refiners are adapting to regulatory challenges while maintaining a diversified sourcing strategy.
