India's February Heatwave: A Looming Crisis for Winter Crops as Temperatures Soar

India is preparing for an unexpected warmer February, with temperatures expected to run far above average. The acceleration of the temperature seems to pose a serious threat to the crucial winter crops: the mighty wheat and rapeseed, which are important to the food security of the nation. Experts are warning that prolonged warmth could cut yields, making it tougher for farmers still reeling from years of poor harvests. The India Meteorological Department has indicated that maximum temperatures may soar up to 5 degrees Celsius above normal in some regions.
