India's Landmark Move: 10 Million Gig Workers to Get Digital IDs and Healthcare in 2025

In a groundbreaking initiative announced in Budget 2025, India will provide identity cards and healthcare benefits to 10 million gig workers, marking a significant step toward formalizing the digital economy. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed that workers from platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, and BigBasket will receive ID cards and registration on the e-Shram portal. The scheme includes healthcare coverage under PM Jan Arogya Yojana, with NITI Aayog projecting the gig economy to employ 23 million people by 2030.
