Insurance Premiums Sizzle: Why Competition is Heating Up

The competition for insurance premiums is rising based on a number of factors. Increased claims costs, especially from natural catastrophes and medical inflation, are fueling premium hikes across many insurance lines. Fire insurance premiums will shoot up by as much as 60% in 2025, while health insurance premiums are also going up due to medical research and an ageing population. In addition, there is intense competition between insurers for profit, creating strategic rate interventions. With the stabilizing effect of inflation on premium growth expected, the market still remains keen as insurers maneuver between profitability and consumer affordability.
