Insurance Sector Braces for ₹5,500 Crore GST Storm: HDFC Life Faces ₹2,400 Cr Demand

HDFC Life Insurance leads the legal battle, contesting a ₹2,422 crore demand for 2017–2022, with the GST Adjudicating Authority alleging inflated invoices for "fabricated marketing activities." Over 30 insurers, including top players, have received showcause notices, per a DGGI probe. HDFC Life has deposited ₹250 crore and plans rectification, calling penalties "erroneously enhanced."
