Speaking to media, Jackie Shroff expressed excitement about stepping back into the world of Khalnayak. He said, “Excellent! I’m waiting for it. 100%. Commissioner has to be there, right? Commissioner toh hoga na. Mera jaan hai Sanju Baba.” His remarks confirm that he will reunite with Sanjay Dutt in the sequel, directed by Subhash Ghai.

Released in 1993, Khalnayak became one of Bollywood’s most iconic crime dramas. Starring Sanjay Dutt as Ballu Balram, Jackie Shroff as Inspector Ram, and Madhuri Dixit as Inspector Ganga, the film blurred the lines between hero and villain. It was a box office hit, one of the highest-grossing films of its year, and earned multiple Filmfare nominations. 

How The Sequel Began

Sanjay Dutt revealed that the idea for Khalnayak Returns originated during his time at Yerwada Central Jail. He asked fellow inmates whether Ballu’s story deserved continuation, receiving overwhelming support. Thousands of handwritten concepts from inmates helped shape the sequel’s narrative, which Ghai later agreed to develop on a larger scale. 

What To Expect

While details of the cast and release date remain under wraps, the sequel promises to revisit the cat-and-mouse dynamic between Ballu and Ram, now with Jackie Shroff’s character elevated to Commissioner. Fans can expect a grand-scale production, blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling.
