As India prepares to host the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, IRCTC has turned out to be an unexpected yet rational beneficiary of the expected tourism upturn. The Indian Railways subsidiary has proposed running 13,000 trains, 3,000 of them special, to carry the pilgrim rush. IRCTC will also introduce a "Maha Kumbh Special" Bharat Gaurav Tourist train with packages for travel to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya. With around 400 million pilgrims expected to visit, compared to 250 million in 2019, IRCTC is well-placed to benefit from the higher demand for transport and tourism services.
