Maharashtra Health Minister: GBS and COVID-19 Comparisons Create Unwarranted Panic

Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar emphasized that comparing Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) with COVID-19 is scientifically incorrect and fuels unnecessary public anxiety. While addressing the current GBS situation in Pune, where 163 cases and 5 deaths have been reported, he clarified that GBS is a manageable autoimmune condition with established treatment protocols. The minister highlighted that unlike COVID-19, GBS is not contagious and the current outbreak is likely linked to contaminated water sources, with 47 patients already discharged and receiving successful treatment.
