Maratha Pride: Goa Waives Taxes for 'Chhaava', Celebrates Sambhaji Maharaj's Heroic Saga

The government of Goa has made the Hindi film 'Chhaava' tax-free, following Madhya Pradesh in its celebration of the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the decision on February 19, 2025, coinciding with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film speaks of the bravery of Sambhaji Maharaj in fighting against the Mughals and Ortizsons, starring Vicky Kaushal. Released on February 14, the film crossed the ₹200 crore mark globally. Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde hinted at possibly doing the same after watching a special screening. This tax exemption is aimed at making the film more accessible, especially to young viewers, in order to learn about the legacy of the Maratha Empire.
