Market Volatility Likely to Dictate New SEBI Chief's Priorities

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, the new SEBI Chairman, assumes office with high market volatility. Foreign Portfolio Investors have pulled out more than ₹1 lakh crore since January, which is testing the stability of the markets. Pandey, an 1987-batch IAS officer with deep experience in finance and privatization, has a few immediate tasks on his hand such as overhauling mutual fund expense ratios and weighing the possibility of instantaneous settlement in Indian capital markets. His history of economic policy and financial management indicates a practical mind to financial regulation. Though Pandey is tight-lipped about his agenda, analysts anticipate that the leadership of Pandey will be geared towards calmer market volatility and reviving investor confidence.
