Mumbai Power Tussle: BEST Hikes Tariffs While Adani and Tata Promise Cuts for Millions
Mumbai's power sector is in for a dramatic tariff showdown as the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) proposes steep hikes for its 10.5 lakh consumers, while Adani Electricity and Tata Power plan substantial reductions for their combined 36.5 lakh users. BEST's proposal includes increases of up to 30 paise per unit, mainly impacting low-income households. However, Adani proposes to reduce the rates by up to 19% in the first year and Tata Power has promised an average reduction of 17.8% over five years. These proposals will be reviewed by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission before finalizing the tariffs.
