Mumbai's mega tunnel: Record-breaking TBMs bound to change urban transit.

The two largest Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are preparing to create history in Mumbai. With a colossal diameter of 14.5 meters, these engineering wonders will build the widest road tunnel in India for the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. They are expected to arrive from China by April and will feature an elaborate tunnel boring system, excavating twin tunnels of 6.65 km each through Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which will connect the western with the eastern suburbs. The ballpark cost for this impending project is Rs. 12,013 crore, reducing travel time from around an hour to 20 minutes between Mulund and Goregaon by October 2028, ushering in a new age in the urban infrastructure of Mumbai.
